![]() Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence: Subverted in both the manga and anime finales.Whether these are due to a creator breakdown, Deus ex Machina, executive meddling or the 2011 Sendai Earthquake is unknown. Chapter 18 has a sudden one, while Chapter 21 has several panels containing little more than rough outlines. Shadow Yuuko constantly belabours the point that she has had no comfort in undeath at all. Also, being Yuuko's negative emotions, that means that she doesn't have any of the good feelings Yuuko gets. Because of how she looks, most people run from her when they see her too. This is only made worse by the fact that she's well and truly alone - even normal Yuuko can't see her, and when she does, tries to ignore and forcibly forget about her. The end result is a being left tormented by her unjust death, constantly living everyday with those horrible memories. She's the negative emotion and bad memories that regular Yuuko doesn't want, and so expelled from herself. But what really takes the cake is Shadow Yuuko. Left to die all alone in a cold, dark, scary basement-shrine, and it was her sister who did it to her. though later chapters reveal that she's actually repressing her negative emotions like loneliness, which have manifested as a second, much darker ghost. It's a miracle she hasn't broken down after all that time. People who do catch glimpses of her are quickly frightened off by the horrifying apparition they expect to see in a "haunted school", further alienating her from the world. Though she can still interact with physical objects, she's often completely unseen by other people she can still try talking to them, but they only register her voice as coming from 'someone over there'.
